Online Degree Validity

Is an online degree valid in India?

Yes — if the university and the specific programme are UGC-DEB approved for the session you enrol in. UGC-DEB is the Distance Education Bureau of India’s University Grants Commission, which approves online and distance programmes annually. Simple Degree verifies session-wise approval before every admission.

Is an online degree valid for government jobs?

Yes, for most government jobs that require a recognised UG degree. Validity depends on (1) the specific exam notification’s eligibility clause, and (2) the university’s UGC-DEB approval for your enrolment session. Kerala PSC, SSC, IBPS bank exams, UPSC — all accept UGC-DEB approved online degrees.

Is an online degree valid in GCC countries?

Yes, subject to proper attestation. Indian online degrees are widely used by working professionals in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Attestation sequence: State HRD → MEA (India) → Indian embassy in destination country → local MOFA. Simple Degree handles end-to-end.

Will the degree certificate mention “online” or “distance”?

Depends on the university. UGC policy states online degrees are equivalent to regular degrees for all eligibility purposes. Some universities’ certificates do not mention the mode; others do. We tell you the specific current practice of your recommended university before enrolment.

Distance vs Online

What is the difference between online and distance education?

Online programmes use digital platforms with live or recorded classes, online assignments, and proctored online exams. Distance programmes are more self-paced with fewer live interactions and often centre-based exams. Both are UGC-DEB approved; online is typically more flexible for working professionals.

Is a distance education degree valid in India?

Yes, if the university and programme are UGC-DEB approved. Distance and online degrees have the same validity as regular degrees for employment and further education purposes — UGC has clarified this multiple times.

University & Approval

How do I check if an online university is UGC approved?

Visit the UGC-DEB website (deb.ugc.ac.in) and check the current-session approved programme list. Look for your specific university AND your specific programme (approval is programme-specific, not just university-wide for online/distance). Simple Degree verifies before every admission.

Are private university online degrees valid?

Yes, if the university is UGC-recognised and the specific online programme is UGC-DEB approved for your enrolment session. Not all private universities have online approval — check the UGC-DEB list.

Can a university’s approval change?

Yes — approval is session-wise (annual). A programme approved for 2025 may or may not be approved for 2026. This is exactly why we verify before every admission. If you enrol in an approved session, your enrolment is generally protected even if approval changes for later sessions.

Is Yenepoya Online UGC-DEB approved?

Yes. UGC-DEB approved online UG programmes are explicitly designed for working professionals. Classes are asynchronous (recorded) or weekend-live. Weekly commitment is typically 8–12 hours. Exams are proctored online from home.

Is there an age limit for online degrees?

Most UGC-DEB approved universities do not have an upper age limit for online UG programmes. Pre-Degree holders in their 50s regularly enrol and complete UGs online.

Career & Future

Will employers accept an online degree?

Most major Indian employers — IT services (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, Capgemini), banks, MNC Indian offices — accept UGC-DEB approved online degrees from recognised universities. Acceptance depends on session-wise approval. We check your specific employer BGV history before recommending.

Yes, if the online UG is UGC-DEB approved. A UGC-DEB approved online UG is equivalent to a regular UG for postgraduate admission eligibility at Indian universities (including IIMs, ISB, top B-schools).
